Red Raider Football Players,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to a reunion on September 17-18, 2004, for one of Texas Tech's finest -- John Conley. As an assistant football coach (1961-74), assistant athletic director (1976-1980), and athletic director (1980-85), he took great pride in representing our university. His persistence and drive certainly played a role in helping bring Texas Tech to where it is today.

In conjunction with the John Conley Reunion, Texas Tech will honor his first bowl team (1964) on their 40th anniversary and his last bowl unit (1974) on their 30th anniversary. Team members will be recognized with an on-field ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 18 during the Raiders' home opener vs. TCU, which kicks off at 11:30 A.M.

The Holiday Inn Hotel & Towers (801 Ave.) will serve as the host hotel. There is a block of 50 rooms set aside under the name "John Conley Reunion". The rate is $109 per night. Contact the hotel at 806-763-1200 by August 20.

There will be a John Conley Reunion Dinner on Friday night, Sept. 17 at 7 P.M. in the atrium of the hotel. The area only holds 140 people so it is restricted to players and wives. The cost is $20 per person. Please make checks out to the Double T Association and send them to Joe Hornaday, Texas Tech Athletics, Box 45050, Lubbock, TX 79409-5050. Bring your best stories. Factual information is suggested, but not required.

On Saturday, Sept. 18, a reception will be held in the south end lobby of Jones SBC Stadium at 9:30 A.M. You are invited to join Coach Conley on the field for his recognition prior to kickoff and then join the Saddle Tramps in welcoming the Texas Tech football team on to the field. To get down to the field, we will meet at the top of the ramp (southwest corner of the stadium) at 11 A.M.

We have a block of 200 football tickets in Section 1 set aside for the reunion participants. As a letterman you will receive a complimentary ticket. Others are $25 each and can be ordered using the form below. Make checks out to Texas Tech University. You can order now, but I do not have access to the tickets until Aug. 16. Unclaimed seats in the reunion block will go on sale to the general public on Sept. 3. Parking is available on the west side of campus and you can ride the Raiderland bus service to and from the stadium.

The Double T Association is hoping to announce at the game that an endowed scholarship has been secured under the name of John Conley. If you are interested in helping to make this a reality, contact Larry Anderson at 806-771-4000 or by email at Landerson@jwa-cpa.com.

I hope you will strongly consider coming back to the campus and being a part of this memorable reunion. If you have any questions, I can be reached at (806) 742-1195 or by email at Joe.Hornaday@ttu.edu.
