Robinson to Receive Heritage Award
Award to honor Red Raider letterwinners who achieve greatness beyond playing field.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech linebacker Quinton Robinson will receive the inaugural Heritage Award during the 2005 Athletic Hall of Honor Induction ceremony.

The Hall of Honor Banquet will be held Fri., Nov. 4, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. Robinson will also be officially recognized prior to the Tech football game the next day. Banquet tickets are $50 each and $500 for a reserved table of eight. Contact the Double T Association at 771-4000 for tickets.

A three-year letterwinner from 1970 to 1972, Robinson was an All-Southwest Conference second team linebacker his senior year, leading the Red Raiders to an 8-4 record and a Sun Bowl appearance. He was given the team’s Donny Anderson Sportsmanship Award following his senior year.

Robinson’s professional career as an educator and coach was recognized in June when the Fort Worth Independent School District named the new athletic complex at Trimble Tech High School in his honor. As head football coach at Trimble Tech, Robinson led the school to its first period of sustained success when the Bulldogs went to the playoffs seven straight years between 1983 and 1989.

Perhaps more importantly, Robinson touched the lives of his players by setting high expectations of behavior and performance both on and off the field. "It wasn't wins or losses, but how he affected lives," a former player said. "His players came from single-parent homes, or homes with no fathers. They had nothing in terms of expectations. It was his example, his high expectations for us."

This year marks the first year that the Double T Association, the athletic letterwinners organization at Texas Tech, is handling the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor voting and induction ceremony, including the presentation of the Heritage Award.
