Griffin to
Receive Heritage Award
Award
honors Red Raider letterwinners who achieve greatness beyond playing
field.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech infielder B.R. “Rip” Griffin will receive the Heritage Award during the 2006 Athletic Hall of Honor Induction ceremony.
The Hall of Honor Banquet will be held Fri., Oct. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. Griffin will also be officially recognized prior to the Tech football game the next day. Banquet tickets are $50 each and $500 for a reserved table of eight. Contact the Double T Association at 771-4000 for tickets.
A two-year letterwinner from 1954 to 1955, Griffin was an infielder when Texas Tech revived its varsity baseball program after a lengthy hiatus starting in the late 1920s.
Griffin’s career as an entrepreneur and philanthropist started with a single gas station and evolved into various aspects of the trucking and petroleum industry. As a philanthropist, he has supported Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian University, several levels of amateur baseball in West Texas and multiple charitable organizations.
This year marks the second year that the Double T Association, the athletic letterwinners organization at Texas Tech, is handling the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor voting and induction ceremony, including the presentation of the Heritage Award.
