Montford to Receive Inaugural Dave Brown Award

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - Texas Tech Chancellor Emeritus John T. Montford will receive the Inaugural Dave Brown Award during the 2007 Athletic Hall of Honor Induction ceremony.

The Hall of Honor Banquet will be held Fri., Oct. 12, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. Montford will also be officially recognized prior to the Texas Tech-Texas A&M football game the next day. Banquet tickets are $50 each and $500 for a reserved table of eight. Montford was the Texas Tech University System’s first chancellor, where he was responsible for the University’s legislative affairs, community relations, budget, development, marketing activities and strategic planning. Under his watch, the university raised $500 million during the Horizon Campaign, a fundraising effort that spanned from 1996 to 2001. In 2001, he was named Chancellor Emeritus of the Texas Tech University System.

Montford currently serves as the Senior Vice President for State Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for AT&T Communications. He is responsible for directing and coordinating the Company’s state legislative and regulatory matters for the 13 states in which AT&T operates.

Dave Brown was an assistant football coach at Texas Tech from 2001 to 2005, during which he was recognized as a tremendous coach, role model and friend to Red Raider athletes. He died suddenly of a heart attack in January, 2006.

The Dave Brown Award will be awarded as determined by the Double T Letterwinners Association. It honors Coach Brown for his dedicated service to Texas Tech athletics and is presented to a non-Texas Tech University Alumnus in recognition of their contribution to Texas Tech Athletics.
