Sweazy to Receive Dave Brown Award

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – Former Texas Tech faculty-member and NCAA representative Robert Sweazy, PhD, will receive the second-ever Dave Brown Award during the 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.
The Hall of Honor Banquet will be held Fri., Oct. 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. Sweazy will also be officially recognized prior to the Texas Tech-Texas A&M football game the next day. Banquet tickets are $50 each and $500 for a reserved table of eight. Sweazy served on the Texas Tech faculty in the College of Engineering from 1970-2005. He held numerous administrative positions, culminating with a four-year stint as the Vice President for Research, Technology Transfer and Economic Development. It is his 23 years of service as Faculty Athletic Representative to the College Football Association, NCAA, Southwest Conference and Big 12 Conference for which he is being honored with the Dave Brown Award.
Sweazy retired in 2005 and resides in Lubbock with his wife, Anne.
Dave Brown was an assistant football coach at Texas Tech from 2001 to 2005, during which he was recognized as a tremendous coach, role model and friend to Red Raider athletes. He died suddenly of a heart attack in January, 2006.
Chancellor Emeritus John Montford was given the initial Dave Brown Award in 2007.
The Dave Brown Award will be awarded as determined by the Double T Letterwinners Association. It honors Coach Brown for his dedicated service to Texas Tech athletics and is presented to a non-Texas Tech University Alumnus in recognition of their contribution to Texas Tech Athletics.
